“Your task is not to seek love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” Rumi

We Were

We were talking about Plato
as you do over wine and,
soon enough, Descartes,
just as I thought I thought I
was for a mo, until we
moved to the moderns
when she confessed Derrida
and all that jazz, waxing
lyrical about deconstruction
as I slowly unbuttoned her
blouse, after which we were
completely existential.
