“Breakfast without orange juice is like a day without sunshine.” Anita Bryant

Such Zest

The carnal pleasure of
oily citrus rind sits before me
and glistens in my eye,
breathes into my nose,
combs my tongue with such
zest as to make me crave its
juice at once, to quench at
once the day's dusted throat
of mine crying out for that
conundrum of sugar and acid
that awakens.
