Something – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“Our need to reimagine our world through the vibratory larynx, that’s what matters.” Anne Waldman

Something

Everything is in flux,
the pundits are immersed
in tragedies longer than a
tudor gown, and everyone
is worried for the canary in
the coal mine who sings
warnings like a harpy, and
I'm thinking out loud that we
need a circuit breaker, a new
song of imagining, reimagining,
something to end this malaise,
something to feed our senses,
something of creative pleasure,
something beyond the heroics
of mundane, powerless survival.

Something

Something came out of me largely dark,
the success of a poultice of intentions,
avoiding, of course, any hemlock or such,
an ending far too premature for the journey.

The success of a poultice of intentions
and is restricted only by somatic fears,
an ending far too premature for the journey
should fear be allowed to take centre stage.

And is restricted only by somatic fears
where the body lays and lies so innocently
should fear be allowed to take centre stage,
would my centre hold in glorious duality?

Where the body lays and lies so innocently,
avoiding, of course, any hemlock or such,
would my centre hold in glorious duality,
something came out of me darkly large.

“One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.”  Simone de Beauvoir

Always That Something

To be close to her is to
feel the cosmos
beating in my heart
running lucy’s diamonds,
essence of fairy dust,
pockets of poppies,
nosegays of lively moves,
handfuls of shooting stars
that tingle goosebumps
in ripples of swoon,
drenched in the purple
of mountains and
the turquoise of reefs,
always that something,
to be close to her is to
have it all.

Day 2 – Lyric Challenge

Something – Lyrical Challenge Day 2

Thank you to OJSPRIDE for the challenge, go check out her blog.

So day two and my choice today is George Harrison’s ‘Something’ from the Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’ album of 1969 (completed in August of that year). I am a fan of the Beatles, George in particular. This was his first A-side single with the band. This was the Beatles last recording as a band, though Let It Be, which was recorded in January 1969 was released in May 1970, so Let It Be was the last album to be released by the band.

Something

Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover,
Something in the way she woos me.
I don’t want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how.

Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don’t need no other lover.
Something in her style that shows me.
I don’t want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how.

You’re asking me will my love grow,
I don’t know, I don’t know.
You stick around now it may show,
I don’t know, I don’t know.

Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her,
Something in the things she shows me.
I don’t want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how.
