Pure Phantasm

Strange days and motel beds,
a distance between us with
that small pocket of grief
we carry in the lone moments
of this wending journey
and, in a moment of elan,
I roll over and reach for you
in the solo of the night
and just as suddenly
come to my senses knowing,
in the drift of my dream,
that the pillow is a
pure phantasm of longing
