“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”  Joseph Campbell

There Are Times

The thin thread of the real
never leaves me,
though it stretches to breaking
and there are times that I must
dissociate awhile
to live in beauty and ponder
the possibility of the good,
to live inside
while outwardly existing amidst
the clouds that presage
an ugliness of life undoing
my existential fortress,
of which I can do little
until it can pass,
it’s a struggle when your
inside is out and your
outside is in.

It Had Wandered – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“It is only through mystery and madness that the soul is revealed.”  Thomas Moore

It Had Wandered

If only she could paint them,
but the colours were all wrong
they were coming too fast
and speaking real slow,
collecting at her temples
and bursting in her ears
while the words on the news-stand
started flying and though
she tried, she couldn’t catch them
and put them back except that
one word, evol, which
creased her brow and
made her hide inside herself,
till I turned it around
at which she cried and laughed
and held her head and
sang a song,
even so, she didn’t trust that
word, it spoke of all the wrongs,
a wasted life and a cruel hope
just out of reach,
but there was no madness in her,
it had wandered down the street.

True Madness (I’ll Be The Drudge Of That) – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

Madness – 5 Lines

Photo: graphics8.nytimes.com  a sardine cannery.

For me the photo speaks of work, income, but also of repetition and boredom, if you like – a type of madness.

True Madness (I’ll Be The Drudge Of That)

Friends with bipolar are sadly labelled,
eccentrics and the odder ones marked out,
people with causes and passionate views,
madness is none of these discomforting behaviours,
true madness is doing what we always do without thought or heart.
