Long Gone – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“The ability to remember the past helps us plan the future.” Margaret Atwood

The house is older now
casements bowed,
roofline sagged,
one day I'll fix it,
I used to know those who could help
but they are far away now,
I remember the toy soldier I
found while digging in the garden,
the squeak of the old swing,
screen door clacking shut,
I have photos of those days,
an old pentax long gone,
it all seems in the distance now,
and yet it feels like yesterday.
