“Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee and just as hard to sleep after.”  Anne Morrow Lindbergh

The Favourite Thing

Wines that palate tease and music stirs
books unpredictable deserve a place
alongside great food and tangled sheets,
but nothing can top those moments when we are
pleasured by our shared meaning in reflections.

“I’ll come and make love to you at five o’clock. If I’m late, start without me.”  Tallulah Bankhead

The Meal

She came round at twelve for lunch,
the moment was perfect
so many flavours and textures and
we thoroughly indulged, noting later
that the meal was delicious too.

5 lines – Repair

“An apology is the super glue of life. It an repair just about anything.”  Lynn Johnston

Simple

O how we mighty fall
with tarnished armour and blunted sword
as the horse of self-righteousness bolts,
and yet, to offer repair in that very place of fear
with that simple five letter word that reignites hope.

“I wait with silent passion for one gesture, one glance from you.”  Rumi

Covert

I can feel you watching and
if I turn around I know I’ll catch you
pretending not to but we never
say a word to spoil this endless
covert game we lovers play.

“Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.”  Rumi

Every Evening

Every evening at the Hare and Hound
they arrived, he first, then she a while later,
and every evening they left together
arm in arm
and burned to the ground.

5 Lines – Pancakes

Just Crepe

Flat, thin or fluffy and drizzled,
honeyed, mapled, citrus sublime,
cousin of pikelets, flapjacks and yorkies,
pancakes are always so divine
but this one’s just crepe.

“The statesman shears the sheep, the politician skins them.”  Austin O’Malley

The Cuckoo-flower

She was more verbivore than herbivore
a cuckoo-flower who habited a simple meliorism
that the pasture was always better down the road
paradise in four-leafed clover she’s heard,
just awaiting the jumbuck special, ticket cloven.

“There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.”  Friedrich Nietzsche

Exquisite Lightness

Time had hardly begun
though time was a pure farrago,
strange how chaos can be so organised
to be such exquisite lightness
and now we are really floating.

5 Lines – The Beach

I Remember

When I have whelved all my thoughts to the
point that I dwell in anomia
I go to the edge to listen to the wind calling,
while the water caresses,
and I remember your laughter.

5 Lines – Voices

You Really Shouldn’t

Nurturing the pain and stealing
jealous moments I cruise the depths
of my darkness, but you just laughed
and you really shouldn’t have because
the voices in my head don’t like that.
