“The only normal people are the ones you don’t know very well.” Alfred Adler
No Such Thing Who drew the line, that thing - normal? name the author of this tale, this fabrication, a fiction that runs in straight lines, ignoring the pendulum in a spectrum of life, that moves to places where lines don't exist, are redundant, constantly moving, realigning. When definitions fail, and pigeon holes cease, labels collapse, nothing is normal. Copyright 2023 ©️Paul Vincent Cannon All Rights Reserved ®️

I think we each need to define normal for ourselves.

Not much “normal” left is there? 😉
As a market researcher I can only remember that it is just a statistic. The normal law. Later to become a norm…
(Was NormaN Mailer “normaL?) 🤣

Lol, Mailer was sure different in many ways. There is little of an agreed norm these days, but I wonder we just covered over difference in the past?

Agreed norm… Hmmm. No. Not much left. I take my hat off when I go into a church. And I force tourists to take their caps, hats off… 🤣
Covered? You probably have a very strong point there. There was probably more respect for others’… opinions? Beliefs? Maybe behaviours were more homogeneous too? The thing now, is that “YOU need to agree with ME”. All the time. And ME is the operating word…

Spot on Brian – it’s currently all about “Me”, waiting for that to end (hell might freeze over).

It might, it might… My revised interpretation of war (given what is happening in Ukraine) is that war might be the consequence and “treatment” of “me-ism”. Once it’s over, the survivors tune it down a tad and swear it will never happen again… 😓

Meism on a grand narcissistic scale for sure. Toned down and revered.

Indeed. A few years ago I wrote and presented a paper at a market research Congress called “Narcissus and the Brand”. I analyzed and – hopefully – evidenced how brands worldwide were increasingly promoting Narcissism in their communication and advertising strategies.
I should go back to the article and update it. LOL.

That is a very telling piece of research, chilling, and look where we are now. That song comes to mind – All About That Bass – a retitle – It’s All About that Me.

Normal is a guideline to walk upon to discover authenticity. It only remains if we don’t choose to move.

I like that thought, yes, atrophy is a prison in so many ways.
