Pilloried – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“Being embarrassed means that you’re human, and we like you better for it.” Nick Morgan

Pilloried

Why
am I pinned in
this wooden contraption?
The jeering,
things,
projectiles,
soft, rotten,
aimed at me.

Feeling naked
right at noon
on a busy platform,
exposed,
in the town
at my center.

Uncertain,
something I said,
Of that
I am certain,
but what?

  1. Exactly. We’ll pillory you, but we won’t tell you why.

  2. A nice reminder on the horrible past. Now you only have to pay money. 😉 xx Michael

  3. I think being put in the stockade for punishment would be better than being tarred and feathered.

  4. We so love to do this to each other.

If we spent a fraction of the energy building ourselves into something worthy of respect, we wouldn’t be feeling the need to constantly be making others feel “less than.”

Although admirably equipped to do it, I never give anyone a hard time ~ except for giving myself or someone on my watch a hard time. Then it’s like, oh, you wanna dance?…

Jeese. I mean ~ how do they feel about world hunger, right? 🙄
