To No Avail – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“The number one rule of thieves is that nothing is too small to steal.” Jimmy Breslin

To No Avail

As a rule I'm not a literal person,
but the sign in the shop caught me
in a vulnerable moment and,
I thought,
I might put it to the test,
so I procured a crowbar,
hired a truck and a crane,
all to no avail,
neither sweat not gumption
did the trick,
nothing would budge,
and I wondered,
who would want to lift a shop?

  2. No, no, no ~ you went about it all wrong! You get several friends, sit AROUND the shop, and go into meditation… 🤣
