We’ve seen the future and … – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“We’re not dropping out here, we’re infiltrating and taking over.” Terrence McKenna

We've seen the future and ...

Some people don't want the future,
they would prefer to stay with today,
living in joyful inattentional blindness
where everyone is waving not seeing.

They would prefer to stay with today,
blinkered against the cost of community
where everyone is waving not seeing,
retreating from hungry mongers.

Blinkered against the cost of community,
the ascent of self as king or queen,
retreating from hungry mongers
to seek the safety of autonomy.

The ascent of self as king or queen,
living in joyful inattentional blindness
to seek the safety of autonomy,
some people don't want the future.

Wow, Paul. This last stanza in particular is so strong. An excellent write, friend.

  2. You paint a grim, albeit accurate, picture of the state we’re in.

  5. Evolution exists for a reason. I enjoyed this form as well as the content. I was thinking it was a triolet but that’s not right. Could you steer me to the future of knowing? Thanks.

    • Sorry for the delay LuAnne – this form is a Pantoum where the stanzas following after the first repeat the second and fourth line of each preceding stanza and concludes with the first line. It can be rhymed too.
