“Existence is a series of footnotes to a vast, obscure, unfinished masterpiece.” Vladimir Nabokov

Wondering

In my youth I always sensed
a long tomorrow
always arriving
with plenty of time
for all I needed.

These days my tomorrows
are arriving loaded,
and burdened with
bear traps of yesterday's
unfinished business;

leaving me to ponder
the moment of my departure
from all my tomorrows,
wondering,
what might remain
tantalisingly unfinished?

  3. Ah, yes the joys (?) of ageing. At 81, I know them all too well. The cracking bones, the swollen knees, the unsightly knuckles … I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m hoping for all those many tomorrows you wrote of so beautifully.

  10. It is hard to imagine that, at any time, I could disappear from here and be somewhere, different. I guess, when it happens, it won’t matter what hasn’t been done.

  13. Funny how your perspective changes as you age…or maybe not funny. Expected, necessary.

  15. Wonderful. Its interesting how we suddenly find ourselves dealing with “bear traps of yesterday’s unfinished business”. We sail along like our tomorrows are endless…..until they’re not.

  16. Unfinished business? Or perhaps part of a greater whole that we don’t yet recognize.
