#2022 November PAD Chapbook Challenge
Day 10 10.11.22
prompt: write a struggle poem.
The Mother It might have been the way she carried herself and her child that caught my attention, she struggled with an undulating walk favouring one hip as if wounded (I'm told birthing can do that) and she played with her child's wrap, holding her closely and making wide eyed contact while simultaneously rummaging her bag. I'm sure she was conscious of the room as sound under water but remained undistracted by the machines and voices, there was no one else and nothing other than their connected eyes that seemed to matter. Her coffee arrived and she sipped a little. I'm certain that by the time she drank it, it would have been stone cold, but then, the coffee was incidental, she was completely absorbed in her child, and for one moment the entire cafe smiled.
