We Live On The Edge – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“Being out on the edge, with everything at risk, is where you learn and grow the most.” Jim Whittaker

We live On The Edge

Does anyone live in the middle,
the place where nothing is and
yet everything is so between it all,
or do people live in extremis,
a polarity of ends and differences,
where everything is opposed to itself,
a kind of Dante's Inferno,
or perhaps, because there are so
many thin places and nothing is real,
we live on the edge of things,
a protest against the mundane
and all that is dull.

  2. A thought-provoking poem. I think many people do live in extremis. For me, I can best see and experience the wonders of life when I’m living in the middle.

  5. The strongest passions are at the extremes. An example is the current polarization of American politics. When stirred together with religion, politics is a potent brew indeed!

  6. It just depends on the best time to risk and live on the edge. But then again, it takes life experience to know when. 🙂
