Always Between – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“We show greatness, not by being at one extreme, but by touching both at once and occupying all the space in between.” Blaise Pascal

Always Between

Always between,
neither one nor the other,
wanting silence,
craving company,
happy to be indolent
while ever seeking purpose,
disconnected,
desiring connection,
relieved to be free yet
jealous of those on the inside,
embarking on projects,
regretting setting out,
regretting staying back,
wanting to stay,
wanting to move,
the pivotal point is always bedevilling,
existing in the between
but ever wanting to be somewhere else,
unsettled,
never arriving,
always seeking,
always between.
