How Can It Be – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.” Harry S. Truman

How Can It Be?

How can it be that the one who dared to tell
what needed to be told, should always be told,
is the one who must be sacrificed for breaking
the rules of the most splendid game,
the game where we pretend that we don't
know that we know?

Why must one person be vilified that others
may be dignified in their ethical lying and
strategic misinformation that protects their
power and presumed authority that looks
very much like corporate narcissism on the
rampage, creating and consuming their
victims with impunity and disdain?

How can it be that we let them?

  3. We live in a fascist regime now. Important facts are not published, dissenting opinions are obliterated. Covid opened up the world to a hyper breed of controlling dictators from health department workers to school boards all the way to national ” leaders” . It sure as hell opened my eyes to a lot of things I can not unsee.

    • It seems to be nearly everywhere, and I agree, Covid has simply entrenched power in govt. I despair over the loss of voice we have lost in the public square. Thank you for sharing.

  4. When I see how corrupt and silencing the leaders of my small community are, by the time it gets to the big boys you are looking at evil personified. I think television and other media sources being controlled by just a few mega wealthy has a lot to do with creating the false matrix that the masses are conditioned to obey. When they silence the outliers that much easier to keep the facade in place.

  7. I couldn’t agree more Paul … our govt should be stepping up! But our subservience to big brothers whims is feeble and toxic … will we ever grow up 😦

    • The evil that masquerades as good govt is, in my humble view, merely a mens of ego and financial protection for those who ascend to power roles. Once on the gravy they become addicted. Beggars belief that it happens under our noses.
