This Way And That – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“A seed neither fears light nor darkness, but uses both to grow.” Matshona Dhliwayo

This Way And That

The wind took the seed
and played it along,
this way and that,
the seed seemed not to mind,
as I followed its flight for a while,
this way and that,
wondering what it would be like
to float along,
this way and that,
until the wind slowed and
the seed lodged in the earth,
an epiphany,
this way and that,
of my flight.

  1. In the midst right now! I admit to having more anxiety about the process than that seedling probably does, however…

  2. I was with you for a moment or two then, Paul. Believe it or not, I can still remember having a dream, around 1970ish, where I was flying with birds in a flock; I also recall the disappointment when I awoke and realised it was not real. It remains the most vivid, believable dream I’ve ever had, and the seed reminded me of it. Cheers, Sir.

  4. I agree with Liz’ comment, as for me it also show the unpredictable way of our life. xx Michael
