“Keep your eyes wide open.” Haruki Murakami
What Was Missed? I feel for those who grieve certainty, even more those whose fear drives them to overcome the unease of insecurity, searching for gravity, seeking maps of hope, direction in finding, making meaning, looking for the vending gods who can be summoned cheaply to assuage, until there is no meaning and life speeds past in all its ineluctable mess until the final door, when they suddenly realise what has been missed. Paul, that reminds me of a button I picked up at the Ai Weiwei exhibit in Grand Rapids a few years ago, with this picture on it:

Wow, what a great photo (on so many levels), I admire his integrity and he might know the meaning of the poem well I suspect. Thank you Lisa, I love this.

You’re welcome. Ai rides in the car with me. I think he makes me a better driver 😉

Perhaps I’d better take him driving then 🙂

Grim. (I try to avoid that fate.)

Yes, sadly (in my view) the herd thunders blindly along seeking certainty and finding it in politicians and snake oil merchants.

You’re welcome, Paul. Perhaps I should look for a logical fallacies tee-shirt.

Certainty? What on earth is that?
(Camus commented on that…)
Have a nice week-end Paul.

I know. Most people can’t live with freedom, because it implies making choices. Most – the same – can’t live with uncertainty. Too hard to handle. More choices to be made… LOL

Lol indeed, yes, that’s another concept so misunderstood – freedom.

Unrelated question: do you ever go back to Nottingham at all? Once in a blue moon?

No, I have never returned to the old dart (UK) not even a blue moon.

Is that right? True, it is a fair distance away. But have you never had the curiosity? (You would have a shock I’m sure…)
Going to London second week of July. Look forward to it.
Cheers mate.

I have family who send evidence, photo’s videos etc, it’s all so different, though the street I grew up in hasn’t changed much the town has, but I used to refer to it as the black whole of Europe, who would want to live there? They can’t cook, can’t play the games they initiated, destroyed their own industry and turned their backs on former colonies, I was not inclined, lol. I’m sure you will grace us with a wonderful tale of your trip? I hope so.

I understand. Sometimes there is no need to go back. I’ve lived in so many “half-shitty” countries, I tended to look at France and Europe as a beacon of stability. But they are all becoming stupider and stupider every year… Heart-breaking really.
But I will indeed “grace” you with tales from the (Frog) pond…

I think too many are looking for the security of black and white certainty.
