“Good and evil lay side by side.” Jimi Hendrix.
It's Never Us Everywhere we went we were convinced that the devil was prowling around causing mayhem and scheming all manner of evil, the old men at coffee were certain of it, they recalled the ills of our lot, the murder on station street, teens out of control, thefts were on the rise too, surely the horned red thing was active, just look at Russia, didn't that prove the whole thing? But one wizened old man cleared his throat and said, isn't evil the thing we do when we dehumanise the other, and haven't we all been guilty of that at some time or another? And, then he said, sometimes it's when we think we are the good ones and we are doing good things. A silence descended upon us and remains. Copyright 2022 ©Paul Vincent Cannon All Rights Reserved ®
This poem made my blood run cold. My answer to the old man’s question is a sad and regretful yes.

Wow, what a reaction, but it is chilling, I think we get lost in the blame and projection a lot. I think we miss the complexities and generalise in regard to war. And yes, that old man is right.

Well, it is the poet’s job to hit us where we live. 😉

Yes.. We all have done something that we regret. It might not be something serious in someone else’s eyes but it really matters to our own conscience.
The last part gave me chills

I think it takes a lot of work, but it is possible, less ego more shadow awareness.

Food for thought from that wise man! We all need to take a step back and consider our own behaviors for sure. Great read, Paul!

We really must be more reflective, then our ego would have maturity to sit with 😉
