Still Rising – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.” Jack London

Still Rising

I traced the line of the meteor's red arc
in the fullness of your glistening eyes,
awaiting love's long, cruel demise,

∽ so soon fooled by its trajectory ∼

a much tilted orbit, ablaze, still rising,
lighting the sky's shadowed back,
tracing a smile on your glistening lips.
