“No woman can call herself free who does not control her own body.” Margaret Sanger
For Brittany Poolaw a 21 year old who was sentenced on October 6 to four years imprisonment in Texas for what is deemed to be a first degree manslaughter conviction for miscarrying her fetus. (You can’t make this stuff up!)
The Violence Of The Puppets Glass ceiling, rape, murder, assault, domestic violence (which is not very), all pale (just a little, in the moment) next to the violence of the puppets pulled by religious manias, twisted science, all criminalising wombs, perversely destroying all who would dare to choose their own path, claiming god as if god (as if) were entirely ignorant by dint of a cultural choice ceding power to a gaggle of goons ironically seeking the very murder they say (disingenuously) that they abhor. Paul, my 2 daughters live in Texas. I always said that if something ever happened to Robert, I would move to Texas. As time passes, that option seems less and less appealing! I think that the supreme court may intervene in Texas abortion laws, and this case may be overturned. I hope so! ❤ Your well-written poem calls attention to a ludicrous and unjust law!

Texas must be a strange place if this is the result, horrible decision, should never have gone to court. Ugh! Steer
clear .

Very powerful and hard hitting, Paul. Whose interests do religious bodies and laws safeguard! If god needs their help, I am quite happy not to believe in god.

I’m with you, yes, what a self-serving sleazy lot they are if this is how they treat people.

Out of control – maybe TX should secede after all.

She was sentenced to four years in prison for a miscarriage?!?!? Unbelievable. I hope the American Civil Liberties Union has taken her case.

All too true, Liz. I heard that because she was or had been a drug user that was part of the excuse I mean rationale.

I just read a few articles about what happened. It’s truly egregious.

I seriously doubt if a white cheerleader type had a miscarriage under similar circumstances, she wouldn’t be facing four years in prison.

I know. It seems we should have fixed it by now, but it just keeps getting worse.

Yes, agreed, I think too that the underbelly of our inability is now exposed, we have believed in our politics and leaders too much. I think Einsteins dictum is true – we can’t fix our problems using the people or methods used to create them.

I think the US Congress is a case in point for Eistein’s dictum.

Very. An old friend I grew up with commented yesterday that the current (and recently departed) bunch makes Richard Nixon look quite the upstanding fellow.

Brilliant, Paul. Fetal life seems to be more prescious to some than anyone already born.

Not sure the Like button is appropriate. I didn’t know about Texas. Many states in mexico and countries in Lat Am criminalize miscarriage… 🙄😡

Yes, I have ben stunned by the moves – as I see it – backwards, like entering into a religio/superstitious control straight out of the 1600s
