Darling Entropy – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“Only entropy comes easy.” Anton Chekhov

Darling Entropy

Shards of chaos brightened my day,
making me smile at my fumbling attempts
to bring order to a universe that slides
off every evening around six, sweeping
away all hope of a grand regimen in this
unhinged shizzle-shuzzle, like trying to
put a yolk back into its shell or turn
back time, or the nonsense of trying to
make sense of the nonsensical, that there
might be footholds on the cliff face of
life that hold forever a way of return,
but I welcome the entropic reminder that
it is half past fractal, which I've never
experienced before, and now with glee.

  1. Great poem, very well written.I especially liked “I welcome the entropic reminder that
it is half past fractal, which I’ve never
experienced before, and now with glee.”

  2. Stunningly vibrant. Paul (and the photo helped)… just what I joyed to read today … leaving it late in the (UK) day to open, and then I smiled – openly and gladly and in recognition that yes, for me too (I’m 68) “it is half past fractal … and now with glee”.

  7. The ever increasing complexity via biological evolution is thermodynamically driven by maximum entropy production (MEP)!

    ……………………………………

Nature selects systems that produce more and more entropy! This thermodynamic principle is manifested as life, evolution and even human civilisation!

    ……………………………………

Discoveries of fire, oil and nuclear

energy are in line with the thermodynamic principle of maximum entropy production (MEP)!

I love the descriptive word pictures in this poem “put a yoke back into its shell” and the playing with words “shizzle-shuzzel”
