“Spiders – so needed and yet so misunderstood.” Donna Lynn Hope
I’m Only A Spider
With a furry little flurry I'm always on the scurry when a shadow intrudes to remind me that you're so beyond big I can't flirt with you, and so I run and run, though slowly, so as not to attract your attention to my plight as I take flight with all my might, that I could make for cover fast, as in the past, and at last I would hide my pride in the shrubbery in recovery, and start my day all over again, without your imposing shadow and, unlike my prey, live to scurry another day. Scrolled past pic. I have a phobia about spiders, can’t look at them or pix of them. I am not any kind of bug person😳🥺😱

A delightfully whimsical spider poem–but I’m still terrified of them, particularly the large ones. *shudder*

This one is big, I think this is young one, They do eat mice, and those fangs are powerful.

They really eat mice?!?! I had no idea spiders could get that big.

They sure do! 🙂 But the mice are bigger.

Excellent poem. I’m a huge fan of the interior rhymes. And, like all other things (except mosquitoes and ticks), I no longer kill spiders. Your spider moves really quick. Is he venomous?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Mildly venomous, enough to make the wound sore, but nothing more, but the bite is, apparently, nasty, they do eat mice. Thank you Sascha. 🙂

Yeah, if it’s that big it’s not going to feel fun. Yikes!

I do like your scurrying spider, Paul. Originally coming from the UK, spiders have never worried me, but I do have a healthy respect for them here!

Yes, same for me, nothing in the UK to worry us, but here we have a number of venomous spiders, and ones like this – can wound.

He moves pretty fast for his size, but not as fast as I’d flee if I actually spotted him in person. As it was, just watching the vid cringed me.
Nice write!

I enjoyed your poem Paul. The spiders do serve a great purpose, but still give us the creeps at times. Well done.

Ha, I gather many don’t really feel comfortable with spiders, but I’m so glad the poem had a positive affect 🙂

Yes, so small and if treated well – quite safe, so many facts about them that amaze me. Thank you so much.

I like the poem. It made me smile even though I don’t like spiders. Not one little bit! I didn’t watch the video…the picture was enough for me. I don’t think there are any critters like it around here. If I were to see one, I would consider moving.

That is one ferocious-looking spider, Paul! I usually just enjoy watching them, but I think I might run from that one. Great poem from the spider’s point of view. 🙂

Thank you Cheryl, yes, they are formidable but fine if you don’t play with them. 🙂

The predator’s dilemma when it meets another predator, begging for mercy where it, in turn, gives none to others. You told that just right. The spider was doing just as you described. By it’s name it sounds like mice is its prey?

Yes, it eats mice, beware the fangs! Thank you Lisa, neat summary of the ancient and prescient parable that I felt inspired this, well spotted 🙂
