Horizon Decon – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

“Deconstruction insists not that truth is illusory but that it is institutional.” Terry Eagleton

Horizon Decon

I'm digging up my highway,
deconstructing my horizon,
I'm celebrating the wheels
falling of my juggernaut,
ceasing making meaning where
meaning can never be found,
letting go the madness of
plausible voices, that eternal
cat's cradle of string never to
unravel, I'm taking down the
frame-work of dull sensibility,
I'm making space for working
with what I've already been given.

  1. Oh,no, grad school flashback! I had to read (and understand!) Terry Eagleton’s book Literary Theory: An Introduction my first semester in grad school.

  2. Just at the point in each chapter when I finally understood whatever arcane theory he was explaining, he would then merrily deconstruct it into meaninglessness. Argh!!

Beautifully expressed, Paul. I can relate to the last two paragraphs. Yes, letting go and making space.

  7. The sculpture is in the block of marble…when you remove what doesn’t belong, the beauty becomes apparent. 🙂 I have been in this process of deconstructing my life for some years now, getting rid of things I don’t need and enjoying what remains. Lovely poem, Paul ❤
