At dVerse De is hosting the Quadrille (44 words) with an invitation to use the word bother or some form of it.
dVerse Poets – Quadrille – Bother

“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” Sun Tzu
Want Some Bother? The bar humming good, a well oiled crowd humoured up, but you know how it is, a slip, a nudge in innocent times, he went off, threatening all in his path until one leaned in with a steely eye, "ere', you want some bother?" ยฉPaul Vincent Cannon
It is a much better idea to drink than to get into a fight.

I’ll drink to that ๐

This is exquisitely drawn! I could visualize the “well oiled crowd humoured up,” and that slip, that brief moment that often lead to things getting heated. ๐

Yes, that’s it – when it gets heated, sadly been there in a pub when it kicked off. Thank you so much Sanaa.

It is good to have a brother who will bother to step in and hold back the inflammation. Good poem Paul.

Yes, I’ve had to do exactly that in the past, it is good when someone does it, a game changer. Thank you Dwight.

One way of putting it Liz, I have been there in my youth, but now looking out at the community it has become a real issue, I keep hoping for change. The politicians seem to have no interest in dealing with social issues, sigh. Thank you Liz.

You’re welcome, Paul. I don’t hold out much hope for change in the US from the politicians. One step forward and two steps back.

Self-serving and self entitled, I wonder that we’ll ever get back to integrity in politics.

Sadly, I doubt it.

Men seem to have a near-monopoly on this aggressive behavior, although I have seen women make fools of themselves after indulging in too much alcohol!
Great poem, Paul! โค

And, in my experience, men don’t need alcohol to be aggressive, sadly it’s a monopoly of the gender either way, sadly. Thank you so much Cheryl.

I like the line “You want some bother?” I’ve never heard that before. But I guess I don’t hang out near barroom fights much. ๐

“You want some bother” is somehow such a cute phrase, I feel it would disarm my own anger, immediately. ๐

You just can’t bother people with impunity. Good lesson!

Here in France, all the bars have been closed for a while and we all miss it. “Bars don’t hum anymore.”

I think that’s difficult, community needs places and spaces to socialise for health, I hope we all see a turning soon.

A wonderful quote, by one of the military strategists who had only been rediscovered a few years ago. As a German, I have to write about it now, alongside Von Clausewitz. Lol

Yes, a few of them had very interesting things to say. Enjoy your dive into Clausewitz – an interesting guy, lol.
