VJs Weekly Challenge – What pulls on your soul?

“You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.” Alan Watts
And I Float Where the wild iris blooms by itself, in the deep forest of my unmask, where my heart runs white water, my mind surrenders to gladsome song. In the deep forest of my unmask all attachment falls to the ground, my mind surrenders to gladsome song, and I float as a peace dove sails. All attachment falls to the ground, its redemption uncertain in this humous, and I float as a peace dove sails, a feathered turtle in the sands of time. Its redemption uncertain in this humous where my heart runs white water, a feathered turtle in the sands of time where the wild iris blooms by itself. ©Paul Vincent Cannon

What a good question. Plural. Hard to choose between many. Of the moderns, Bukowski, Ginsberg, TS Eliot, Dylan Thomas, Judith Wright, RS Thomas, Mary Oliver, John O’Donahue, to name but a few.

I am somewhat familiar with Ginsberg, TS Eliot, Dylan Thomas and I have actually heard of Bukowski, but I don’t know much about him, however the others are new to me.

I think we always encounter the new in conversation.

Bravo, Paul! The structure works so well for this poem. How that wild iris calls to me.

You do pantoums very well, and this one is no exception. As soon as I recognized the form, I felt a little lift in my chest: oh, good, a Paul pantoum! You definitely do that wild iris justice. I just love “in the deep forest of my unmask.”
