“We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong we may begin to use it with love and respect.” Aldo Leopold
We Forgot
The words dissembled before me,
tumbling down,
my mouth moving,
searching for meaning,
glory in failure,
we forgot beauty,
running after fantasy
coated in soft-tongued speeches,
fetid, like an open sewer
wrapped in a bloody tricolour,
the bunting of martyrs,
fugitives of ourselves
on the parapets of love.

So many great images in this poem! So many messages wrapped in distressed wisdom!
running after fantasy
coated in soft-tongued speeches,

Yes, just constantly amazed that people imagine political salvation when the the process is so flawed, or that we imagine we’re in control. Distressed wisdom, I like your summation, thank you Dwight.

We’re in it really, constantly kidding ourselves that our leaders are going to turn over a new leaf, or that the next one will be the one , or that we’re in control, amazing, so many gamblers in the lottery. Thank you Liz.

Yes, it weighed on me, I nearly didn’t post it, but it is what it is, thank you so much.

Humans ability to abuse their own backyard so appallingly
Distresses me. However, the so called “Animals”
Treat their habit far more appealingly

Yes, and we’re the “intelligent” ones. Every issue is human. Thank you Ivor.
