dVerse Poets – Poetics – Dream

“Dreams are illustrations …. from the book your soul is writing about you.” Marsha Norman
I Swam Through Rooms
At some point
when time slipped into time
and lost itself,
I joined in and found my way,
it jumbled in my eyes,
so fast, so slow,
and back again,
a chain,
a heron,
boats and trains
all upside down
floating,
as winged beast hovered overhead
mysterious doors and coloured lights
glowed all around,
and I swam through rooms,
dived through windows,
such a rollercoaster ride,
till mystery entered,
a shadowy figure
inviting me to follow.

Definitely, Paul. I’ve been recording dreams for thirty + years.

Amazing, Paul! But dont forget, there are horrible dreams too. Maybe reality is much more horrible sometimes. Michael

Only in our dreams can we immerse ourselves in such bizarreness with abandon!

I love dreams, I keep a journal, they are, for me, a rich resource. Absolutely agree. And thank you for sharing.

I have thought about keeping one, but I spend enough time in the middle of the night scribbling down poetry (ha!). I have no doubt they would prove valuable.

Someone I know uses a a recording device, phone probably, to take a short recording, saves time apparently .

I could see time as you describe it, particularly for the very young and the very old.

Time is so weird, but we tame it, but not in dreams. Thank you for picking up up on time and your response Liz.

It is a weird thing to conceptualize.

It sure is, one of my first forays as a child regards time was Carroll’s Alice stories.

I love the feeling of weightlessness this poem evokes. Curiosity would get the better of me, I would follow! 🙂

A dream written dreamily, loved the flow that makes the reader feel like they are floating/swimming.

So many dreams are like that… quite hard to make any sense in. Sometimes I wonder if it isn’t the process of cleaning out garbage.

Jung felt it was shadow stuff trying to get out, so yes, maybe that is so, I wonder with you Bjorn.

lol I was close to drowning six times before I even went to school … so maybe water is not a safe place for me … love being in it but wont go out of my depth 🙂

Metaphor, stay with the metaphor, keep away from the deep water stuff 🙂

It sounds like a dream–and the title is perfect. I love the feeling of freedom and going with the flow in this the way one does in dreams–a heron? A train? Sure whatever, I’ll just swim through and see what happens. Sometimes I know I’m dreaming, and I’m so amused.

Love your poetic response Merril, yes I am indeed amused at times. Everything is up for grabs in a dream.

This opening line “At some point when time slipped into time
and lost itself, I joined in and found my way,” is such a perfect introduction to the dreamland you explore here. I love this!
