“The better you feel about yourself, the less you feel the need to show off.” Robert Hand
The Show Pony
Clippity-clop, clippity-clop,
comes the show pony,
man, what a performance,
sighing, shifting,
surely not drawing attention,
disagreeably terse,
momentarily incomunicado,
pouting, shifting, drifting,
back again,
unrelated, off-topic,
every subject an expert,
eyes averted,
machine-gun style,
embarrassed laughter,
looking for approval,
sharing anger uninvited,
we simply listened,
accepted,
and held you
knowing.

Wow! The pace of this captured me – could feel the terseness. Interesting piece.

Don’t you love an expert with trainer wheels still on?! 🙂 glad to know the pace and tenseness worked, thank you for reflecting back VJ

It can be quite the challenge to respond with kindness when in the presence
of a perpetual Show Pony.
I think it’s spot on that those insecure with themselves seek the most attention.

Yes, that’s my experience to, especially in adult education. Thank you for those observations Sandy.

Knowing the writing process as I do, I don’t doubt it–but your end results do appear effortless.

Yes, always kindness. Comes close some days, but the letting go … thank you so much Lisa.
