“…. if we could move away from a culture of compliance based on ‘perverse incentives’ and ‘too much focus on achieving targets.'” E. Munro
If Only
I didn’t realise the magical power of managerialism,
if only we’d thrown it at Hitler in Prague
we’d have stopped the war at the start,
what if we talked it to Ho Chi Minh or
the drug dealer down on the corner,
perhaps it would save the poor
or schmooze the terrorists to relent,
reverse global warming and
save a species or two as well,
we’ll stop disease altogether,
you see, we’ve got a plan
all policied and shiny
with targets and outcomes
and performance indicators
in case we get lost,
regulations and procedures
to keep us in line
and risk management in case
the lines run out,
with this kit and caboodle
we’ll conquer the world,
one document at a time,
all will be well
she passionately droned.

bureaucracy plus … sounds like you’ve been bogged down in management meetings 😉
They spend more time on creating red tape than actually achieving anything …

Indeed I have, we’re following the same path as every other mob. 😦

I fully agree. Its some entertainment given to us by them who should be our servants, but became our reigns. 😉 Michael

Yes, irritatingly so for those of us who suffer it.

I have had an amazingly varied life, but I find that in my current context, it’s much the same as working in government. Somebody stab me now!

I was once in a meeting with an ex-pollie. and I made some remark that it was like the Hollowmen. He said that was his life for over 20 years.
I feel your pain.

Great that you said it, what I find even sadder is that those in the meat grinder either can’t fix it or can’t be bothered, always the status quo, sigh, thank you for empathising.

Love this, the perfect bureaucracy where no one is accountable

Yes, sadly we’re stuck with the drivel that won’t work, makes money for the rich and will never deliver what it has promised.

One document at a time,
all will be well.
This is such a simple math and theory to understand but hard to accomplish as the people in power never care.
Powerful poem Paul.

But wait–where are the deliverables? We can’t leverage opportunities if we don’t have deliverables.
