dVerse Poets – Poetics – Madness

“It is only through mystery and madness that the soul is revealed.” Thomas Moore
It Had Wandered
If only she could paint them,
but the colours were all wrong
they were coming too fast
and speaking real slow,
collecting at her temples
and bursting in her ears
while the words on the news-stand
started flying and though
she tried, she couldn’t catch them
and put them back except that
one word, evol, which
creased her brow and
made her hide inside herself,
till I turned it around
at which she cried and laughed
and held her head and
sang a song,
even so, she didn’t trust that
word, it spoke of all the wrongs,
a wasted life and a cruel hope
just out of reach,
but there was no madness in her,
it had wandered down the street.

I don’t know what to say, Paul, except that you have a gift for touching the core of human experience. Once again, I feel as if you have teleported over here and peeked in at my world. I’ve been trying to put it on paper, and there you are, expressing it so well.

I can only say I have been privileged to work with so many people and their colourful lives, amazing. Well, I’m gobsmacked that it could possibly be so – but there it is, wonderful connection, and thank you so much VJ.

So much to like about your poem in fact I evol it 😉 from the very first line, the poem never lets up with all her impressions and keeps a great pace too. Thanks for joining with the prompt Paul

I love how you manage to describe someone’s experience of a madness, when you cannot really see, or describe or maybe make it stick on a single word….

Yes, I’ve never experienced it but I have worked with many who have and even then to try and capture it is difficult. Thank you Bjorn, appreciate your response.

A really touching piece Paul I love the opening descriptions, I can feel it with your character…and that madness wandered down the street.

It may not be our reality, but it is theirs. Sensitivity and respect are key. I’m ashamed to say I’ve failed in both with my loved ones in this regard.

It is easier when you work with them or have friends, but when it is family it is the most testing experience of all, be gentle on yourself 🙂

Those last two lines… the madness leaves as inexplicably as it comes on.

You got it in one, yes indeed, as if it never happened. But overall, never to judge, simple to love. Thank you so much.
