Photo: my wife’s cat – a Rag Doll called Misty.
“Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a purpose.” Garrison Keillor
Resident Ghost
Shadows along the wall
imperceptibly moves the curtain
furtive, secretive gambit
of a resident ghost,
a collection of bugs,
how did they congress there?
Mat askew and a clump of hair
on my folded trousers,
under the bed
glinting eyes eerily stare,
then darkness.

I love cats and Misty looks like a really laid back one!

Oh indeed Janet, a typical rag doll, sleeps and rests a lot, slothful 🙂

Beautiful cat! I laughed at the clump of hair on folded trousers! My son and his wife have three cats and one is a rag doll Rumple. Hair everywhere!

Lol, last week the cat hair blocked up the vac, at first I couldn’t figure it out, then I took the hose off and bingo.

Ah, I really like the movement, as it occurs, at the beginning — it’s wonderful how you talk about the hairballs and the skewed mats.
Misty is absolutely gorgeous. 🙂

The rest of the family would agree with you, I’m a little ambivalent, but she has got under my skin 🙂 many thanks Anmol.

The cat as poltergeist. They are strange creatures, even the slothful ones. You’re lucky it’s only bugs in corners. Half-eaten rodents under the bed is worse.

This one didn’t know what to do with a mouse, she played with it all day then let it go, so no half eaten ones thankfully 🙂

We have one that only hunts cobwebs and is terrified of wild things, but the other lady has stopped bringing her catches inside to eat. She’s made herself sick stuffing on rodents. I know when she’s already eaten a few when she brings us one and lets me take it away from her. The dead ones I leave out for the fox, but sometimes they’re unharmed and run away. Occasionally one fights back. Little heroes.

That is so very true, Rag Dolls come with a warning that they cannot survive outdoors. Love your lines David, thank you for the rejoinder.

No feline profiling, Paul.
I did almost buy a Rag Doll kitten
for the kids. But then I decided the
poor thing would be defenceless
against my brood of psychopaths 😎

Such a well captured reality of our Misty and yes in deed a ghost floating through the house – but such a beautiful one

They can be sneaky little buggers, fast as lightning, and impish in their tricks. Great poem, and Misty has mischief in her eyes. That seeming inertness is just a clever disguise.
