After So Long – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

Presence- VJs Weekly challenge

After So Long

I remember dinner so long ago,
I must have been a world
weary conscious four,
you were home after shift
as roster flew by and,
you seemed to linger awhile
less on the edge
more where I could see you,
know you,
though then, you were very
dark and fearsome
confused with pain
you knew not how to fathom,
even so, there were moments
middled in the muddle of it all
where happiness came along,
and one day you went,
a little too soon,
beyond the edge where I
could not longer see you clearly,
but now, after so long,
I can feel your presence.

  5. I saw a post today that started, Dear Nicky, We’ve missed you these 50 years.
It was written for a soldier who was KIA during Vietnam, but it could certainly be for any soldier who never returned. I immediately thought you could do an outstanding poem with this in mind. Do you think?

  6. Lovely. Reminds me of my maternal grandmother, who was only in my life sporadically for eleven years, but whose presence has stayed with me.
