dVerse Poets – To Market, To Market

She Will Rise
The cold air exposed her breath
and what was seen in the sea of stalls
was also felt through her body
while her table
at exorbitant cost,
considering her income,
was a painfully hired space
for her and her baby,
working nights in the city
and days plying her trade
in this flea market,
she gets by,
many look,
while others deride her hard work,
her precious beads of delight,
that some eschew
too few embrace,
but one day soon she will rise
from this place of vague existence.

Yes, that says it, and this we know for ourselves, and yes, that song of old.

Perhaps I’m alone in this thinking. … she is there despite it all … by her very presence, she has risen.

Yes, one of the key words is “again” she has clawed this far, and now onto the next rise, she’s determined in spite of it all.

“vague existence” – an apt description. So difficult to women to get ahead – in some cultures more than others.

Yes, here too many, they fall through the gaps and fade. Life could be different and it would be so simple to make it better.

great depiction of women’s struggle in daily life, constant labour for so little reward yet still we struggle on coz it’s all we know!

What worries me is that it wouldn’t take much to go back to the 50s, I am troubled that we only have a veneer so far.

it is only a veneer with no transparency … why are men so fragile?

We’re delicate creatures. 🙂

lol most would fiercely deny that but they must be fragile and insecure to perpetuate such unwarranted violence …

Defending the false ego is always damaging, nasty stuff. But until we can educate an entire generation I don’t see major change, we still even have young women who, because they’re damaged in some way, help perpetuate the male behaviour. Frustrates the life out of me.

You too Paul! Here after six months of winter and four months of autumn we have something like summer, and the people whining again. Lol

Lol, it seems that your cold spell went long. Our warm, dry went long, we’re 100 mls short of our summer/autumn rainfall, which is significant. Rain has arrived now, but a lot needed. The whining well and truly in flow.
