“Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of cancer.” Edward Abbey.
Abundance Patented
Adam’s spawn did play a game,
a nasty little game so spiteful,
turning the earth’s abundance
to a paucity
an economics of scarcity
to benefit the few and
starve the many,
for giggles did they
sup in full view
on the horn of plenty
thumbing their noses at death,
who smiled.

Ouch. Brilliant poem, Paul. Don’t get me started on what GDP measures, eg. re-building after climate induced disasters.

Yes, awful stuff, meagre, parsimonious doling, all to create false markets and hope, degrading and abusive. Thanks for reflecting on this Tracey

Sooner or later, richer or poorer, we all end up the same place. It would be much better if we were nicer and shared more before we got there.

Wonderfully written, as usual–terrible situation. The grace of God, His love makes the soul Generous, eager to Give–I know this personally; but I forget that the world operates from a largely godless view…they don’t know His grace and love, so how can they be anything but greedy? They have hungry hearts.
