Ramparts Of Fear
We built that fort from a dream
but the fantasy became a nightmare
as we dug that ditch of despair
and erected a palisade of sharp invective,
towers of lies,
ramparts of fear,
aiming our ideological long bows
at every initiative with
which we disagreed with vituperation,
locking the gates against reason,
and executing those who believed in change.

How odd that the more we resist the change, the more inevitable it becomes, and that is truly to be feared. Another great poem from you, Paul.

Very kind Tracey, and a great insight you offer, wish it were not so.

I really do hope it is a good year for crops in the northern hemisphere otherwise we are going to be in real trouble.

Wonderfully penned! Sounds like current Trumpian America (where the Statue of Liberty should be melted down).

Yes, I saw a cartoon yesterday where the Statue was in a vast crowd of despondent people and crying.

Nailed it … the show has begun and this is the first in ages I’ve refused paid employment in the polling booths … not sure I want to engage with their BS at any level!
