In You We Awaken
They said you didn’t fit in,
that you really didn’t belong,
like some grotesque gargoyle,
an adornment out of kilter,
an inconvenient incongruity
in this smooth place,
where the nightmare of sameness
put a spell on us,
and stole the outside part of our box.
But you were different,
colour to our black and white,
and that made you fit all the more,
as the paradox we needed.
You were our conscience,
our inspiration,
an awakening.

Beautifully written and thought provoking. We all need guidance, whether our own conscience or a belief of some sort. 🙂

love this poem! this phrase really popped out at me: “an inconvenient incongruity” . And the truth of the poem sings, society does need those that stand out, stand apart, to show a future road no one is noticing yet
